You'll love this full-length movie from Patagonia. Born and raised at Punta de Lobos, Ramón Navarro found his passion riding the biggest waves on the planet. But his accomplishments in giant surf are just one part of a bigger vision to protect the culture and environment of the Chilean coast.
Are we surprised? Heck no. We've been taking photos for years in anticipation of this very moment. So here's a pile of the very best ones that explain, in a way that words cannot, why Woolacombe won.
'Edges of Sanity' by Finisterre UK ditches the tropical facade present in most surf videos, focussing instead on the raw isolation of surfing in winter. Although Woolacombe gets a touch warmer than the Scottish breaks featured here, the vast empty landscape is similar which makes 'Edges of Sanity' particularly relevant right now.
In this blog I explain how I took this picture. You may recognise it from the Kittiwake One website and I've picked it because it represents a great example of eye-catching beach photography
As 2014 makes way for 2015, some of you will be looking to spend it in Woolacombe. We’ve lived through Christmas and New Year in Woolacombe a few times over the years and and in this article we share what's going on in the venues around this beautiful part of North Devon, as well as our favourite way to spend New Year's Day.
We love what the National Trust do around this area and you should too. From 'Walling' workshops to big cleanups of the beach, they go a long way to ensuring Woolacombe remains stunning.
Here is this autumn's guide to events in the local area:
For the third video in this series we turn back to WaveDreamer, a local Woolacombe film-maker.
In this series of blog posts we share our favourite beach and surf videos. 'Noosaradise' is just lovely from start to finish. While its not shot in Woolacombe, a lot of what the video shows is possible to experience in Woolacombe (including the dolphins).
In this series of blog posts we share our favourite beach and surf videos. Some are from Woolacombe, but most are not. They all have one thing in common though; they all capture what Woolacombe feels like on a great day. They are a perfect way to get in the right mood for your holiday.
If you're coming to stay Woolacombe for any length you might want to put some time in at the local theatres and cinemas. In this blog we've provided links to the 'What's On' pages of the nearest venues to Kittiwake One.
Morte Point is a beautiful headland owned by the National Trust and within walking distance of Kittiwake One. It’s always worth a visit for the breathtaking views across to Lundy Island and Hartland Point but during 2014 there’s an extra reason to get your walking boots on: ‘Life and Morte’.
New for 2014, Kittiwake One will feature Wi-Fi internet access. It is with this in mind that we’ve written this guide.
As 2013 makes way for 2014, we share some practical advice as well as share information on the local parties and celebrations.
Drive for about 20 minutes from Kittiwake One's location in Woolacombe and you'll reach the boundaries of Exmoor National Park. In October 2011, the Park was the first place in Europe to to be designated an International Dark Sky Reserve.
The National Trust, in partnership with the The Campaign for Drawing, are hosting a 'Big Draw on the Beach' between 11am and 1pm on Friday 1st November.
For some people Woolacombe is all about the surf. For others the beach offers a great opportunity to lie still and do nothing other than turn over every 15 minutes for an even finish. Somewhere in between these two extreme levels of exertion lies kite-flying, and Woolacombe Beach is perfect for it due to the vast amounts of space available.
With the sun beating down and the waves lapping the shore, it's hard to imagine a better place to spend a summer's day than on Woolacombe Beach. The problem is that if you happen to be there during the main holiday season you won't be the only visitor, and getting yourself some peace and quiet becomes a strategic quandary.
From 21st to 23rd June 2013 Croyde Bay will host the best way to see in the summer: The GoldCoast Oceanfest! Live music, demo sports, an adrenaline zone, bar, trade village and more will keep you occupied for three days...
Woolacombe is the second best beach in Britain. We already knew this to be almost true (we'd argue about the precise podium position) but now it's official-er according to the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Awards 2013.
The North Devon coast is a simply stunning place which offers a myriad of opportunities for exploration. Whether rambling across the cliffs or kayaking around the coast, the views will give you a new appreciation for this teeny tiny island we live on.
We've been asked before how best to get around on bicycle and so, with the aim of being as helpful as possible, this blog post was born. We didn't know the full answer so spent a while researching before committing our findings to digital ink. Read on, reader...
As we prepare to say goodbye to 2012, we thought this little post would be useful for those of you planning to welcome 2013 in fancy dress.
It's tempting to think of Woolacombe as a summer beach resort but if you've ever been there during the winter months you'll be able to relate to this blog post.
Just a 15 minute drive from Kittiwake One, Arlington Court is an amazing place to visit at any time of year. This October half-term it will be more spectacular than ever as the leaves turn golden and the nights draw in. Why not take the opportunity to go one one of their organised ranger walks in the daytime, or a spooky evening Hallowe'en tour by torchlight?
If you're taking a self-catering holiday and you're anything like us, you'll want to treat yourself once in a while to somebody else's cooking. We've spent years in and around Woolacombe and have seen restaurants come and go, with varying levels of consistency and food quality. Here are our top three...
While you're staying in Woolacombe during the summer you'll probably drive to the beach from time to time. We've learnt the hard way over the years about the different places to park, including the pros and cons of each, and thought we should share the wisdom. If you want to get the best out of your day at the beach, read on...
Whilst in Woolacombe you might fancy a walk to catch some fresh air and get away from the crowds. We've found this wonderful suggestion from the National Trust and thought it was worth sharing.
